The labium is a very personal body part for a woman.

It encompasses the four folds of tissue of the female external genitalia. For some women, enlarged labia can be an uncomfortable condition, while others would just like to have a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

A labiaplasty, an aesthetic surgery for the female genitalia, involves reduction of the labia (skin surrounding the vaginal opening). Patients request the surgery because their labia either hangs or appears to be too long. Some patients complain of discomfort during sex or when wearing tight undergarments.

Labiaplasty can have many benefits to your health, as well as to your sex life and overall self-image. For those women who are unhappy with the size or appearance of their Labia Minora, the topic can be one of sensitivity and shame. With a great cosmetic surgeon on your side, your problems with the area can be corrected and you will be restored to a beautiful new you. Embarrassment over aesthetics will be erased for good because of your Labiaplasty surgery.

FAQ

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THIS PROCEDURE?

For labiaplasty during your initial preoperative visit with your surgeon, we will need your complete medical history, including all of your medications, allergies and previous surgeries. You will undergo a thorough physical examination and blood tests. Feel free to talk to your doctor about the exact look you are hoping to achieve and any questions you have about your procedure.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

Operating time for the labiaplasty is about one hour.

HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN RETURN TO MY NORMAL ACTIVITIES?

Some activities may be resumed in a matter of days, such as returning to a job that does not require constant sitting. Strenuous activities, such as your normal exercise regime, must wait two or three weeks. Dr. Wu will follow your progress closely and advise you as to which activities are safe during your healing process.

HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN RESUME HAVING SEX?

You can resume sexual activity 4-6 weeks after your labiaplasty.

CAN LABIA TEAR AT FUTURE BIRTHS AFTER LABIAPLASTY?

Birth trauma can result in tears regardless of whether or not you had a labiaplasty. Fortunately these tears are usually not along the labiaplasty incision, especially if more than 6 weeks has passed since your surgery.

CAN LABIAPLASTY CREATE LESS FRICTION TO MAKE SEX LESS PLEASURABLE FOR A MALE PARTNER?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the size of the labia which allow women to have more pain-free sex. Vaginoplasty, in comparison, is another surgical procedure used to treat vaginal wall laxity to increase friction for more pleasurable sex.
